The Egyptian Accreditation Council, EGAC is established by the Presidential Decree number 312/1996 and re-organized by the Presidential Decree number 248/2006 as the sole national body for the assessment and accreditation of conformity assessment bodies in Egypt including testing/ calibration / medical laboratories, inspection bodies and certification of products & systems as well as personnel.
According to the Presidential decrees of EGAC, EGAC is headed by the Minister of Trade & Industry and has a board of 14 members, representing all stakeholders and concerned bodies.
International recognition by the Council until 2021 in the International Forum for Accreditation IAF, the International Cooperation Organization for Accreditation (ILAC), the African Accreditation Organization (AFRAC) and the Arab Accreditation Organization (ARAC) in the areas of accreditation of certification bodies for quality and environment management systems, accreditation of food safety systems certification bodies, accreditation of testing and calibration laboratories, medical testing and inspection bodies Work is also underway to obtain the membership of the European Organization for Accreditation (EA), and it is planned to certify the providers of technical proficiency tests in 2019, in addition to participating in the International Forum of Halal Accreditation Bodies (IHAF), where the recognized areas include accreditation of halal product certification bodies.
